Perhaps because I’ve recently flown “the friendly skies,” this WSJ headline caught my eye.
“Senators Warn United, American on Merger”
The article quoted a letter written by Senators Elizabeth Warren (D, Mass) and Mike Lee (R, Utah), noting “a combined United-American air carrier would be able to exploit its market power to harm consumers in a number of ways.”
Like, “higher airfares!”
Here’s a question for these two Washington Watchdog Wizards; where were your letters to all the Hospital Systems that have merged?
Tilting at windmills, again. Oh, well. Maybe this is a Kalshi opportunity! (‘Josh’ing with ya, now.)
Back to airlines - and in a lighter vein - some Tips readers will remember putting quarters into a life insurance vending machine when checking in at the airport.
Two bits would get you $5K of term insurance, the ‘term’ being the duration of your one-way flight.
In a photo album somewhere, I’m remembering a picture of my ‘Gram’ in the old Mitchell Field Terminal buying a policy before flying to the west coast, knowing that could be her only ‘estate.’
Kind of sweet. Even sweeter, she lived well into her nineties.
